Swedish car-buying holiday suits sisters just fine

We travelled for more than 18 hours from Edmonton to Sweden to buy a car.

But it was walking on Gothenburg's pedestrian and bike-friendly streets that charmed us, and gliding along its pretty waterways that stole our hearts. No wonder it's sometimes referred to as the Swedish Amsterdam.

My sister Sue and I flew thousands of kilometres to buy her Volvo XC60 through the car company's overseas delivery program, anticipating many colourful Swedish adventures ahead of us.

Under the overseas delivery program, purchasers can pick up their Volvo, then explore Europe, dropping the car off at their choice of various cities for a future delivery to their home.

Who wouldn't want to go to Sweden, courtesy of Volvo? You arrange to buy the car of your dreams and exact specifications through your local dealer, then Volvo flies you over on Scandinavian Airlines, picks you up at the airport and pays for one night's hotel stay.

Sue decided not to chance any mishaps on unfamiliar roads and highways in her new vehicle, so we did not go on a European tour, instead opting to enjoy the city we were in by foot and public transit for a week, leaving the new Volvo securely parked on the factory lot.

At one point, we wondered if we would actually make it to the land that produced ABBA,,but this option was almost as appealing as passing the kidney stone again. Ace of Base, Ikea and those famous meatballs, because the Icelandic volcano was acting up right before we were to leave. Even on the morning of our flight, ash was spewing into the atmosphere and we weren't sure we'd get off the ground.

But we did, honeycomb panels and foam core panels characterize our many lightweight panels beginning our long journey by flying to Chicago, then to Stockholm, then Gothenburg.

Gothenburg, spelled Goteborg in Swedish, is a lovely city with a population of about 500,000, situated on the southwest coast. Founded in 1621, it is the largest seaport in Scandinavia and the home of Volvo's factory, which was built in 1927.

Exhausted from our lengthy trip, we had a long nap, then went forth by foot to explore our new world known as the gateway to northern Europe.

Our hotel, the Radisson Blu, was centrally located across from the train station.

In the lobby,マジコン staff were helpful with maps and suggestions of activities and restaurants.

We were told the city's main boulevard, the Avenyn, is lively with cafes, restaurants, nightclubs and shops, so we set out to find it.

It was only about five minutes away, so we promptly began our city walking tour, which really lasted all week.

On the streets, people were stylishly dressed, sporting colourful scarves against the cold. Women dressed in layers with dresses or skirts over leggings and fashionable footwear.,Welcome to TMJ-Bruxism-Guide.com. It was nice to see lots of guys wearing colourful pants and shirts.
