Toledo Zoo to kick off Lights Before Christmas


Adorned with more than 32,000 lights, this spruce boasts more lights than the famous Christmas tree in New York City’s Rockefeller Center. The tree lighting ceremony will be between 6 and 6:30 p.m.

To celebrate the 25th annual event, the zoo plans a number of features. Crystal bears made from an acrylic material embedded with thousands of pure white LED lights commemorate the 2009 birth of Siku the polar bear. Spheres of light, covered with almost 20,000 wide-angle LED lights, will be found throughout the zoo. Plus, an all-new display will give visitors the chance to light up trees using Pedal Power bicycles.
