Congressman Fattah Announces $15 Million to Transform Dilworth Plaza at City Hall

Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), Pennsylvania's senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced today that Philadelphia's Center City District will receive $15 million to transform Dilworth Plaza at City Hall into a downtown centerpiece and transportation gateway.This may mean that the budget range does not offer all the 'bells and whistles' that are associated with hiphonei9 the top of the line products but they will look good.

Fattah led the effort for local Congressional support for the new Dilworth Plaza, joined by Congress members Bob Brady, Allyson Y. Schwartz, Joe Sestak and Patrick Murphy.

Fattah welcomed the grant announcement today, noting that the plaza on the west flank of City Hall in the 2nd Congressional District "will provide hundreds of good-paying infrastructure jobs and generate tens of millions in economic activity.

"The new Dilworth Plaza will be an energizing spark and a people magnet for Philadelphia's already-vital arts, entertainment, shopping, dining and residential core," Fattah said. "The Center City District is to be commended for developing this concept and I'm pleased that we in Congress have provided the push to implement the plan.There will always be top of the range and expensive products guccijean available for people to enjoy, and those who can afford them will be grateful for this option but people should not be forced to miss out."

Fattah, who is chairman of the Congressional Urban Caucus, said the project is "an example of the investments we must make in our urban areas under the Infrastructure Bank proposed by President Obama.At home, this is great for a collector who wishes to show off last2010 their wares but for a shop, drawing consumers' attention to a particular product is a great boon. I was a strong and early advocate for the President's Recovery Act. Job-generating projects like this – with enormous benefits to the wider community as well – is exactly what we had in mind," Fattah said.

The Center City District's partners in the $40 million project are SEPTA and the City of Philadelphia.
