Fluorescent Bulb Recycling Program Underway in Yonkers
The City of Yonkers, in New York has initiated a recycling program for fluorescent light bulbs, light ballasts, and electronic waste.
The program has been launched under the terms of an enforcement agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Following a 2008 inspection of buildings belonging to Yonkers, the EPA requested documentation regarding the city's spent bulb recycling efforts. When the city failed to adequately respond, the EPA says that it cited the city for violating the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the federal law governing the treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste.
